What works best/Disinfecting the tank

karaslittleyoshi Oct 25, 2004 10:51 PM

What is the best to use when disinfecting the tank? Do I have to bleach the water dish to or is this harmful? I also use repti-carpet, any ideas on what is best with this. Any advice is great.

For the carpet just stick in the washing machine and set it on whatever setting that uses hot water. wash normally

What i did to clean my tank after my gecko died is first I soaked in a hot water/bleach (ALOT of bleach, half a gallon) solution (filled to the top) for 2 hours. Dumped out all the bleach/water and rinsed the tank with hot water till all the bleach was out. Then i dumped half a gallon of amonia and filled the tank back up with hot water and let it sit for 3 hours. dump out and rise REALLY well. dry off.

I would also soak any bowls/ tiles/decorations in the soultions. I also then took my food/water dish and put it in the dishwasher.

This will ensure a clean tank with no viruses to pass to your new gecko (if this is the situation)

My gecko is still alive, (yeah!) I was just wondering when I clean his cage weekly what is the best non-harmful method. Thanks for the help

oh, haha, sorry

I use tile so all i do i clean off wherever they pooped with a paper towl and alittle water. Takes like 30 seconds.

Repticarpet is a bit of pain because pee and poop can soak in it. I'd wash it every other week in the washing machine
