Worried about TREX and THOR

Flavia Guimaraes Oct 25, 2004 11:19 PM

Since we moved from Malaysia to India, TREX and THOR, my almost 5 years old males iguanas (that i raise since they are tiny babies), are not eating very well. The lack of appetite is geting worse the last few days because i needed to move them indoors. The weather is becoming really cold ( around 60F) so i moved them to their indoors cages.Although im keeping them warm with hot lamps, they are not eating well and (even worse!)they are not peeing and pooping every day as they used to do in Malaysia, only one or two times a week!Should i start panicking? No vets around!

The iguana in the photo is THOR and the photo was taken before we moved to India, when they were happy and ate a lot!

Hi Flavia, glad to see you again...You made a big move there and I am sure its taking its toll on your guys...I find here in America, that the cooler weather brings on breeding season...all 5 of my igs are suffering at this time...this could be the prob with yours....have they had a well checkup...have you found a new vet over there? Good luck...Your iguanas are gorgeous...I love looking at your pictures....Lyn

Hi Lynn

Nice to talk with you again! Now you have 5 igs? How do you find time to take care of all of them! My 2 are such a burden!lol!Always trying to kill each other! When you have time tell me your igs stories. Are they rescues?

I moved to India with 9 reptiles. All of them settled down nicely and started to eat as soon as i turn their lights on.But the iguanas! On the beggining i needed to hand feed them so depressed they were!Even now 45 days after our arrival in New Delhi they are still eating only enough to be alive!

No good vets around.Nobody here raises reptiles, only dogs and cats. Most of the domestic animals free roam on the streets, without any special care/attention. There are a few petshops but they only sell dogs stuff like food bowls and Pedigree pellets.

Thanks for your message. My igs used to be cute but now they arent that gorgeous any more. They lost weight and they are looking sad.

Hi Flavia...I adopted all of my iguanas...in a couple cases, they were "rescued" ...I say that because had the original owner kept them, they would not be here today ...I have had Spazzie the longest going on 8 yrs in Dec. Rocky, 4 yrs Lizzie and Ziggie 3 1/2 yrs and Frisky is my newest one...I have had almost a year (he is 13 yrs old) Give your iggies time...sometimes it can take a year to settle in...my igs were all fine with change, some cannot take it at all....

Enjoy...Lyn
