Gartersnake books

aggrocroc Oct 26, 2004 12:32 AM

Hello,
Can anyone recommend any good gartersnake books (need something to keep me busy while I'm waiting for everyone to breed next spring I already have, Barron's "Reptile Keeper's Guide: Garter and Ribbon Snakes" and AVS's "The General Care and Maintenance of Garter Snakes & Water Snakes". Also I've got tons of books just on snake care in general..really just looking for more books specifically on garters.

Thanx......Roy

The Garter Snakes, Evolution and Ecology
Douglas A. Rossman,
Neil B. Ford, and
Richard A. Segal

University of Oklahoma Press

This is an excellent volume on taxonomy and natural history for the entire genus. The book is divided into three sections with multiple chapters. The sections are Taxonomy and Evolution; Ecology, Behavior, and Captive Care; and Species Accounts. The book is fairly extensive in its information and the species accounts are excellent and thorough. It also includes extensive citations. The book is pricey but I highly recommend it for any Thamnophis aficionados seeking to get beyond the basic pet care books.
