Morphs

Someone please explain to me how to really tell one "type" of Ball from another. Maybe I am jsut dumb, but when someone ask's me what "kind" of Bally Python I don't know. I am sure mine is just some normal Ball Python, I got him from a pet store 5 years ago, but I they all look the same to me. Of course there are the ovbious differences with the albinos and radical color morphs, but how do you tell one morph from another and who is to decide what morph is what?

This is my snake, Ferris.

Thanks!

Ferris is a beautiful Reduced Pattern Ball Python.

Technically, a Reduced Pattern (IMO) is just a way to describe the particular patterns of an aberrant Normal which may or may not be reproducible through breeding -- much like Banded, Blackback, etc.

The "real" morphs are much more distinguished from the Normals and easily recognizable-- Piebald, Albino, Spider, etc.

When I started a few months ago, all Ball Pythons looked the same. (Some borderline animals still do.) I stumbled across a website that listed a few distinct traits of each, and it has helped a lot.

Hope the website helps you as much.
Ball Python Morph Criteria

-----
0.1 Normal
0.1 Banded
1.0 Reduced Pattern
1.0 Burgundy (PH Piebald)
0.2 Het Piebald
0.1 Screaming Child

Thanks, I'll check out the site.

I emailed the guys at NERD and they told me that he was a "reduced Pattern" *shrugs* I'm still clueless and he is totally my pet... I guess if I was interested in breeding it might mean something to me. I'd still love him if he was an ugly snake too though.

Thanks!

Reduced Patterns happen to be my favorite. He is absolutely FAR from being ugly...and I'm sure I'm not alone in that opinion. =)
