I was making a post earlier, and came up with an excellent idea. I think I'll start up a "Reptile Lovers Anonymous".
HaHa This will be a special group of herpers that give support to each other who have spouses, parents, etc. that do not agree with nor support our love for reptiles. This will be very similar to the forum, but will be made available more for the purpose of whining, griping, and venting because our loved ones won't allow another reptile into the household. Or for those that have families that do not understand our special needs. No basic care or health issues will be discussed.
What do you think?

I always wondered if others had the same issue that I do.lol My husband doesn't share my love for the beardies (although he did love Zatarain) and to be honest he's a tad jealous of them. I think your idea is great as a matter of fact that's why I am on reptile forums.

My husband drives me nuts! He wants absolutely nothing to do with any of my reptiles. But when somebody visits us, he's always acting like they're his. He wants all the attention, with none of the responsibility. He's also very jealous of the amount of time I spend with them. I try to explain to him that this is my job. And I do love my job! LOL

He doesn't like me being on the forums either. Guess he's afraid I'll run off with some man that shares my interests.

Are you sure we are not married to the same guy???!!!! Sounds just like my husband. He hates the time I spend preparing food each week, cleaning cages and holding the little darlings. The part I think really bothers him is both my kids (ages 16 months and 4 years) are just as bad as I am. One of them is almost always holding one of the bearides when he gets home from work. One of the baby's first words were lizard. Oh the bad part is my husband acts like he's not just as spoiled as the animals & kids are. I could understand if the lizards were eating their dinner but I made nothing for him, but that has never happened. lol

I know what you mean. My husband thinks I can just drop everything once he's home, and dedicate the entire evening to him. I'm afraid things don't work that way. He can take care of himself. My animals can't.

I like it, although i have pretty understanding parents and my dad is intrested in them and asks questions. my mother will not allow a snake in the house a threatened to sell every lizard i have if i didnt get rid of a garter snake i found in the yard, i liked him because he was really docile but i couldnt risk the lizards.
to bad for mom that my dads bring two cornsnakes that were abandoned home.
oh yeah and no feeder roaches allowed either even though i explained that tropical roaches could not infest the house becuase its freezing here, she cant handle it

To some extent I agree with you. I'm a Vet Tech and love all animals. I just got a 2 month old beardie and love him. But my husband is too infatuated with his snakes. He spends 1/2 an hour in the morning and 2-3 hours in the evening dureing the week with them. Then on the weekend he spends 4-5 hours a day with them. I have to fight with the snakes with his time.

My husband should have realized by now, that he should help me with the animals if he wants to have some time with me. All the work would get done quicker if he'd just roll up his sleeves & help me. I sure can't take care of my animals sitting on the sofa with him. He says the reptiles are my deal, but he has no problem trying to spend the money I've made at the reptile shows. Weird man, but I love him.

My intrest...My kids, Animals, country music (no choice on this), power tools, working out & 4 wheeling in the woods!! And my husband doesn't lift a finger for any of the critters here, says they are mine & the kids so we get to take care of them.

I just read what I wrote and I sound more like a guy!! I guess that's what happens when you live in a house full of males.

cricketscritters Oct 27, 2004 11:41 AM

No worries. Before I started having back problems, I was a heavy equipment operator. I was a roofer before that. I love to shoot pool, go fishing(yes I bait my own hook) and I loved 4-wheeling(can't do it any more). I loved doing yard work, done tune-ups, brake work & changed my own oil. I've always done my own electrical & plumbing repairs.
I was once told that I'd make a great husband. HaHa. I like everything that guys do except football & women.
There's nothing wrong with being a tomboy.

Even though I have had my new dragon for a month now, my husband is already thinking I spend too much time on him. However, he does like the little girl! He helps me with the crickets (yuck)and has even decided not to get mad at me for the second beardie I'm trying to buy! He thinks I spend way too much time on here though ( the pet store guy told us I shouldn't read this stuff!)

Think its a great idea!
