Quick Question About Breeding

scubaqueen Oct 26, 2004 01:08 PM

I have a pair that I've just introduced, but I was really wondering if you guys thought that they were "breeding size". I've read all of the previous post, and all I can seem to find is around 3 1/2 feet.

Well, my female is about 4 and weights 8lbs, while my male is only around 3 feet and at 5lbs.

Thanks,
Kourtney

But from advice that I've seen previously your just above the reccomended sizes. Which I kind of assumed means it's possible they could breed at that size but not definate.... hopefully someone else will chime in I've a bit curious about this myself.

Hey,
Age and size seems to have an indirect correlation when it comes to bloods. Size doesn't seem to matter as much with the species, as much as it does with other pythons, but age does seem to matter more, as sexual maturity with the species takes a foot-hold or comes into play when the animals are about 3-4 years of age. Development of follicles in females takes place when the animals are in the 3rd to 4th year of life. Males also, will start to develop sperm by age 3, but some have been known to shed sperm plugs much sooner.
