I just LOST my baby.... I am so upset

carib74 Oct 26, 2004 02:23 PM

I was taking her for a walk with my dog to get some extra sun. Like always, she was in my hat, with her leash on, but I guess it was too loose because when I was walking in the forest I felt the leash fall.... empty, next thing she had jumped to the side and dissapeared in the jungle... Me and my dog we looked for her for one hour, but I knew it was hopeless. This happened in a little hill next to my home that is keeped with wild vegetation. Do you think I have any chance to find her if I go early in the morning and try to find her in the top of the hill? I already miss her a lot, and I am concern about cats in the area. I just got her her first butternut squash and she love it. I can't believe how stupid I was, how could I let her scape, she is so tiny, I want my little green baby back...

I am so sorry, Carib... but it is going to be very hard to find any one particular iguana on an island where iguanas are indiginous. I think you do have a chance of finding her in the early morning. Look up high, of course.

I hope it consoles you that your baby will probably be just fine, as it is nice and warm where you are... and she will probably have a happy life, which she owes to you for saving her from those boys. Whether you find her or not, you did a really good thing saving her.

Yes, i think the same. When i lived in Malaysia i knew some guys which iguanas escaped and were found back much more happy and healthy than when they were in captivity.I think you have a chance to find her if you go back to the same tree she climbed to escape. In general iguanas that are released take some time to get used to the unexpected freedom.

First of all, thanks to all the people that emailed me some advice and conforting words. Most of them are concerned about the night temperatures. I have to say that I live in a caribbean island where the igs live free. The temp are perfect, there is a lot of sun, and hibiscus everywhere. I am sure she feels in iggy paradise.
When I founded Phoebe, she was tied by the neck and carried by a little street boy. She was certainly going to die in his hands, so I rescued her to free her, but she was not in a good shape so I decided to keep her a few days until she was recovered. I never released her because I got attached, and maybe that she scaped is just the right thing. I miss the little monster terribly, but I am sure she is just very happy in the forest, licking everything and looking cute up in a three. Long life, Phoebe! now my walks with the dog will have the extra fun of looking up all the trees expecting to see an ig with a familiar look! Once again, thanks to all and love and hug your iggy today for me

You do sound like a good iguana parent, though! Too bad you don't live here in the US or Canada where we need good iguana owners to adopt from shelters. I don't know if there are any iguana rescues in the Carribean? Good luck!

I live in St Martin/St Maarten, tiny island east of Puerto Rico. It belongs to France and the Netherlands. Hope you like India!
