Please Help...Lady bug invasion!!

DragonLvr3 Oct 26, 2004 03:44 PM

I’m being invaded by hundreds of lady bugs!! There are honestly hundreds outside and are getting into the house. I’m wondering if the find their way into the beardie tanks what will happen (if they eat one) I haven’t read anything about beardies eating lady bugs are they toxic???? I keep checking the tanks and so far there isn’t any in them, I keep catching the lady bugs and putting them out side.

Well, I am sorry about the "invasion" but hear me out. KEEP THE LADY BUGS OUT! I have read nothing about ladybugs being edible for beardies. Until I see proof otherwise, I would not let one ladybug in the cage. Good luck and send me an email at twiztid4life@centralpets.com and tell me the info you get on this subject please.

yeah i would keep them out at all cost. Not sure what they would do to a beardie but i do know that nothing in nature really touches lady bugs for a reason. The colors alone on the bug give it away as being toxic to wild animals. but a beardie wouldnt know this since they are from australia.
You might be able to get some chemicals at like homedepot to keep the lady bugs away.

Ok Heartmountian says they are toxic so now I'm gonna stand guard at my tanks. This really stinks. There are thousands of them outside and Its gonna be hard to keep them out, but I WILL no matter what!!

are you sure they're lady bugs? we have some bugs here in iowa that just showed up last year. they look extremely similar to lady bugs but they are called Asian beettles(or thats what everybody calls them). If you kill one in your hand does it stink really bad? if so, its probably the same bug that we have here. Bug Bombs will kill them really fast, but i dont know what the bombs might do to your dragons(or crickets). Get some Hedge Apples at a grocery store. Cut them up, and place them randomly throughout your house. Hedge apples are non-toxic and repell spiders, mice, snakes, and other bugs. i dont know if that'll get rid of the bugs, but it cant hurt. just a suggestion, it might be worth a try.

Happy to say this morning they are all gone. I did some research because my sister said the same thing, and they were a mix of lady bugs and the Asian lady Beatles. About half & half. Some were bright red and some the orange, but at least as of now they are gone. Must have gotten too cold over night for them.

Note they are NOT lady bugs. They are Aphids which are even lethal to parrots so I suggest everyone who is having problems spray the outside of your house with a pesticide. Also I read in Womans World that if you want them to go away to take a bright yellow container and fill it with water. They are attracted to the yellow and will fly to it and drown.

My brother's room is infested with them. Before he goes to bed, he has to scoop up at least 30 of them and take them outside.

Just a warning, if they are not bright red, then they are aphids which are fatal. Aphids also smell weird and leave yellow acidic stains on the walls where they are.

OK here is a picture of the little critters, since they are coming back. Looks like a lady bug to me. some are bright red and some are orange. The government let loose millions of these Asian lady Beatles to kill off the aphid population and they bred out of control.

Well they are taking control of our house 1 by 1 lol.

But I keep my brothers door shut and mine partly shut. They get in through my brothers window which is not properly sealed.

My brother's friends grandmother's barn, is covered with them. Marc (brother's friend) said that it looked like the barn was moving there were so many of them.

Just keep them away from the animals and they should be fine.

Oh yea I am keeping they out. I haven't seen any inside yet today, but it's early. Don't want my babies to eat them!
