I am pretty sure my red tail has a URI and a trip to the vet looks neccessary. I hear him whistling when he breaths quite a bit. Could anyone tell me about how much I can be willing to pay in vet costs??

Well it depends on what the vet does and what type of medication he recommends. I have paid anywhere from $50-$100 for the visit and tests that might be ran. I would try to call the vet first and ask for an estimate. Good Luck

Now that I have heard him breathe, I noticed that his eyes are starting to cloud over so I think he is going to shed soon. I have heard people say that this is the reason for the the breathing noises. Do you thin k I should wait till after he sheds to see if there is still a noise when he breaths?

I would definitely wait for him to shed. A lot of time snakes will whistle like that before they shed. Just maybe bump of the temps a little bit, but not too much! and wait it out. If he is still making the whistling noises then take him to the vet.
