What do you all think about Austin Stevens.

He doesn't seem to have much respect for snakes. Not even after being bitten multiple times by different venomous animals.
So, I have no respect for him.
It would be cool to see him really get tagged, though.

Ditto. It seems as if Animal Planet is trying to over-sensationalize "dangerous" animals, especially snakes. It's horrible, it's not helping anything with the exception of adding to negative stereotypes.

_____

he once found a sleeping snake and it was all balled up (not a bp) and he started tossing it side to side, then unwravled the snake and stuck him on the ground....
you know when he was "in search or the man-eating python"? well that's one of the 2 that I've seen and I was just waiting for that 25' snake to just swallow him up...

I think the bionic man got dyslexia.--LOL-- Wasn't his name Steve Austin?
I enjoy watching his show, for it's show value, but it's more like fear factor than anything else. Those people on fear factor are a bunch of idiots too, but people watch for the gore factor. I think his show is the same thing. People watch it for the shock value of seeing him get tagged occasionally. Good for ratings. Remember, this is a business--entertainment=ratings=commercials=$$$$$$.
People who know snakes shouldn't be bothered by it, because we know the show is done for ratings. People that don't know snakes may be badly affected by it (by reinforcing their fears), but they probably would never come to know snakes like we do anyway. I think it is harmless entertainment, as long as it doesn't result in any more restrictive laws being passed because of some legislators' unreasonable fears. (Which shouldn't happen since venomous snakes are already banned in most of the country.) Hopefully, the people who see it won't take it anymore seriously than I do, and just enjoy it for it's shock value..

there's 2 Austrailian losers on Animal Planet now... Austin Stevens and Steve Austin... Please! no more!!! 1 was enough!

actually austin stevens grew up in south africa, and I agree he is a jach @ss , like the episode with the frilled, i own four and I dont think that they would walk up on the camera that way in the wild , they are all captives and the show sucks
thanks

There is a lot of reason snake people should be upset with his show. Especially keepers of venomous and large constrictors. He is a harm to the entire hobby and the sensationalism is what the public is given to voice their opinion on. people are further fueled in their fear of snakes and do not want these animals next door to them. After all...we aren't experts like Austin Stevens with a show on AP lol. I do admit though...he is a way better photgrapher than I am. But I think he has a better camera than I do.
Animal Planet. That station is retarded & now it's even more retarded.

For a long list of why Austin Stevens is terrible
I will definately agree that animal planet is goin down the tubes (then again, ALL learning channels are), but I must admit there hasn't been many television shows that capture the beauty of nature like this one does. Call me a sucker, but I think the camera work (not just the dude's photography, either) is stunning. Although he is cavalier, almost irresponsible in his handling of whatever it is he finds, you have to admit the animals shown are visually outstanding.
Even if it is all staged, we should be thankful that at least there is something involving herps on tv. Sure, he's another boarder-line nut who is probably hurting the reputation of snakes and the like more than he is helping, but would you rather be watching him, or some arguing burnouts building some sh!t that seems to serve no purpose?
If they portrayed snakes as loving adorable potential pets, everyone would want one. The market would crash faster, then to whom would we sell the $20,000 morphs?

will not be affected by austin stevens. They are always portrayed well in the news. The people whos collections are really hurt by this are the big constrictor people and the venomous people. This is why I think most people in here dont care much about the laws that are being passed. I think everyone should be hekping each other because we have all dedicated our lives to snakes and it would put a bunch of tears in eyes if somehow everyones group of female pastels suddenly became illegal.
