She's So Unusual!

anson Oct 26, 2004 06:47 PM

This is my new girl. I got her a couple of weeks ago.
What do you think? She just looks different from most of the Ball Pythons I have seen but I'm not sure why.
She is very brightly colored in a deep orange and her pattern is REALLY busy.
I thought I had seen one some where that was similar and this pattern had a name but I don't remember what.
Anyway she is super docile and is a real pig. She will eat anything I offer and lots of it. She is my favorite "morph"
an amazing "piggy ball" she has eaten mice, rats whatever and her first meal was a frozen thawed.
She is also growing at an alarming rate. I got her three weeks ago and she has almost doubled her weight!

It makes you go cross eyed.

Showing her color and pattern.

Very nice looking ball python. The increased dark areas inside the lighter blotches reminds of a pair that I have. Some people call these "jungle patterned or labyrinth". But until they prove otherwise they are simply odd patterned normals.

It's an Orange Ghost (Hypo). I posted a pic of him a while back and someone also commented that it reminded him of a caramel albino. I used a narrow spot light (2 inch radius) to really capture the lavender irridescence. He is definitely one of my favorites but unfortunately he's NOT a caramel albino... But someday, someday!

I haven't really "learned" how to take photos, it's mainly just trial and error. A lot of experimenting with focal distances and lighting.

Not sure if she qualifies but I like that pattern mixed with her orange coloration. I also like that she has spots on the areas on top of her back. She has a lot of those lighter orange areas on the black too, I think you call that blushing.
I should have turned her for the photo as there is more of it on her opposite side.
I can't wait to see that pattern when she is an adult. It will probably look better but I hope she does not lose all the orange color on her sides.

billcherep Oct 26, 2004 07:50 PM

Here is a girl I got about 6 months ago. Kind of similar. Can't really call it anything untill you prove it out. I found that out by posting the question of what this girl was when I get her. I'm breeding this girl to my pastel and maybe something fun will come out.

anson Oct 26, 2004 07:56 PM

But I like her anyway so worst case scenario I have a wild looking pet. Yours is really nice looking. I wonder if bred to an albino if it would add lots of white areas or maybe she wouldn't pass it on genetically at all. We can dare to dream, right?

bachman Oct 26, 2004 09:13 PM

She is a pretty Ball though.

I must be in love. LOL

I really don't know anything about BP. No one said either were proven but there is a possibility to prove them out just like any BP that has a special look to them. I just think that is how people find these great morphs. Prime example is a yellow Belly. Nothing ultra special looking about them but are hets. If you have never seen a normal I attached a pic of my normal male and compare them. Anyone can see the difference. Not only the pattern but the orange? Its worth a shot to try to breed them. Good looking snake.

Yeah, they should throw babies that look like them, I just don't see them looking like anything but normals.

I think her color and pattern are nice too and I hope she can pass that on to her offspring. Whether I mate her to my 100%Pied het, albino het or just to another normal, if I find one that is similar.
That is a very nice looking normal you have there.
Here is a pic of my pied het.

bachman Oct 27, 2004 09:38 AM

She will pass her juvinile colors to her babies (not all of them, but most probably). Normal Balls with alot of orange in them tend to brown alot as adults.

Breed two pretty adults & most babies will be pretty. Breed to ugly adults & most babies will be ugly. Too simple, but thats how it is.

billcherep Oct 27, 2004 12:43 PM

You are right 99.9% of offspring will be a lot brighter than their parents. Its just natural but not all loose their coloring as much as others. My girl that I pictured is now about 600g and shed after shed I expect to see the orange get dull but its actually getting brighter. Go figure.

Newsflash! We know anything that is not proven is a NORMAL! Don't need to be told every time someone askes if anyone has seen a BP that looks like this. Even if you do prove it, the morhp better be amazingly visible or you better know a reputable breeder because no one will listen to you. Good luck!

bachman Oct 27, 2004 01:19 PM

He wanted opinions, but aparrently only opinions that agreed with him.

600 grams is not large enough for your snake to lose the orange coloring yet. Orange will brown, (almost always) and blushing usually gets much better.

He wanted to know if he had something out of the ordinary, and I pretty much told him no. Should I lie & tell him he has the next new morph??.....LOL. If people don't want to hear opinions, then why do they post asking opinions??

Yours & his are very pretty, ordinary Balls. Their coloring will "probably" look average as adults.

Sorry, about before. Someone must have sprinkled a bit of a**hole dust on my Wheaties this morning. I agreed with you about most of what you said. Just don't want people new to the game, like me, to be discuraged. This is half of the reason BP are so popular and everyone want more people involved in thisa industry. Its good for everyone. Good luck to everyone and again I apologize.

I valued both opinions. I just posted because I am drawn to this particular snakes pattern and color. Mostly pattern. I know most of the color will go but she is still nice.
I will probably opt to breed her to a het for something visual and was hoping that if I breed her to say an albino or het that her pattern may be passed to her offspring down the line.
I like to at least get a nicely patterned female to use for producing hets. I didn't pay a bundle for her since a friend of mine breeds and imports farm raised also. I have a breeders licence because I breed Chameleons and geckos so he sells wholesale to me.
Oh, by the way I'm a girl not a guy! My user name is confusing because I own an art and framing shop and I use it's name as my user name.
By the way, Will work for Balls! LOL
Here is a non ball pic (sorry) but these are hard to breed so I just had to brag on my first one (panther cham)

bachman Oct 28, 2004 06:16 PM

I screw up on human gender on this forum all the time (I usually just say guy or he without ever thinking about it). You can kick me in the Balls for calling you a he...LOL.
