New Snow Corn

MagickDragon Oct 26, 2004 08:47 PM

While doing a reptile show (I sell beardies) I found the most beautiful snow corn. I have a few questions. The breeder told me to put her in a 10 gallon for a while, so she has a small area. I have a black light on her with a heat pad on order to arrive this week, Does this set up sound ok and when should I offer her food?? Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had used or tried the sausage type meat rolls for snakes. I have never seen those offered anywhere but would love to know something about them. Of course I will be ordering my pinkies from mice on ice this week as well. If anyone can be of help here I would really appreciate it. I have never had a snake and don't want to screw this up. Thanks in advance

"The Corn Snake Manual" by Bill & Kathy Love. They have all the answers to your questions. It doesn't cost very much, usually about 10-11 dollars and I know that Petsmart usually has it in stock.

The Snake Sausages are very expensive to use, and some snakes won't touch them. Plus, do you know what they put in them? I sure don't. A regular diet of plain old appropriate size mice is fine for the snake's entire life.

Make sure that you get a good thermometer to monitor the temps in your snake's cage. Put the thermometer directly on the bottom of the tank.

Remember that snakes are excellent escape artists, so make sure that your cage and the lid are VERY secure. If there is the slightest space to squeeze out, they will.

Hope that is enough to get you started.

I Would get rid of the blacklight! Go with the under the tank heat pad.
As far as the snake sausages, used them once. My snakes wouldn't eat them. But you never know, you're snake might love them.

Good luck with your new snake.

Thanks! I already have Kathy's book (its great!) I haven't even found anyone with those snake steak sausages yet, but I did order some pinkies from miceonice.com. I think my girl is ready to eat, she looks really busy around nightfall, flicking her tongue and moving around a lot. I will have fresh food on friday. I am a little nervous about feeding time, some people say to feed in the enclosure and some say use a sep. container. Not sure which I will do yet. Thanks again!
