help, is there anything wrong with my gecko...

leopardgeckoman Oct 26, 2004 09:23 PM

is there anything wrong with my gecko or is she just scared? About 12 days ago i got a male midnight. 5 days later i held him up to her cage just so she could see him and i wanted to see her reaction, well she bolted and was trying to get out. So i held her after i washed my hands from holding the male and she started to run but finally calmed down. And i've given her a couple days and fed her a wax worm or two for a treat and now she is acting weird. She "wags" her tail every time i reach in to hold her. But now when i try to feed her she refuses the food and eats another day later so she is eating 10-12 crickets every 3 days, which in my book isnt good. So is there anything wrong with her because she used to be a nice gecko always "smiling" and would just be cool if you held her. Or do you all agree that i should give her A LOT more time to calm down. Which leads me to my next questions. In the spring (incubation for the male would have been already done) do you think i could breed her with the male or is this a sign of, "leave me alone or ill bite him if he comes in here type deal"?

If my gecko will be alright with mating and all, instead i might get female) blizzard (midnight if i can find one) and house her with my normal. Or is this a case of a gecko not wanting another gecko in it's cage?

I just walked into my bedroom and saw some new stools. this one was very soft, she might have stepped in it i dunno but a little was mushy and watery type. Also i have that part with paper towel and a spot with a 2" radius was all wet.

Maybe you'll be ready by Spring, but right now it sounds like your a nervous wreck, lol. Don't worry, I doubt holding the male near the glass scared her horribly.. Also, when you decide that you want to breed that female to that male, just make sure that she is ready(Over 12 months old, weighing over 60 grams, etc.. If you've done your research you know what I mean) and if you see agression between the two while they're in the same tank then seperate them. Now.. There's "Agression" and then there's "Courting". Courting will be the male rattling his tail and approaching the female, tasting or nipping his up to her neck from her hind quarters. The male normally won't hurt a female at all this way. Agression is the female standing up on her hind legs, slow tail wagging, hissing, snapping, etc.. Keep us posted on how she's doing. I'm sure she'll be back to her normal self in no time, just give her some space.
