Anybody else have a picky gecko

karaslittleyoshi Oct 26, 2004 09:50 PM

I feel as if my gecko is spoilded rotten. I know it sounds odd but when I take away his rock to mist it he runs straight to his water dish and gets right in the center of it. Every time I do something he doesnt like he does this. (Secretly I think its because he knows I have to change the water when he does this, haha)Also By the time I get off work only one pet store is open so I usually buy my crix there. The past two days they have been out so I bought mealworms. Yesterday he ate several but he acted strange, not excited, (I guess because there was no hunt) but today he would not eat any. He is a good eater so I dont know what is up. An ideas or is he just picky.

Mealies are kind of boring for them because they dont move very much if at all. Also my leo if I take away her coconut she goes crazy and runs around and starts liking the paper towels where the cooconut would be quite funny!

I feed my leos mealies but after awhile they get board with them and I have to feed crix for a few days.I really think they like to hunt faster prey.Your leo just isn't used to inactive prey,he should eat them if he gets hungry but if he goes a day or two without eating them offer a couple of crix to get him interested.

I second that. Mine are fairly new, so that had something to do with their lackluster appetite. But once I got them interested in a few crix, they really went after the mealies too.

Might want to try more active worms like super worms

My geckos hates mealworms, hestaved for almost two weeks once because he won't eat them. They arn't that good for them either.
I'm stuck with crickets. Mine also gets kinda posessive when I move his sweat box to remist it, i noticed he likes to walk in the water dish too.

I just wanna recommend this dust (see pic below) It's really great, I posted about it earier today so i'm not gonna type as much about it. It's a full meal dust. My geckos was a little underweight and this stuff on my crickets fattened him right up again. It's a really good idea for any other the fat-tail geckos. (my gecko is African Fat-tail which is brown and tan bands.)

Mealworms are great for Leopard Geckos. Actually, mealworms are preferred over crickets, because they tend to carry internal parasites more often..
