Rainbow Boa?

Amandalyn25 Oct 27, 2004 12:49 AM

Can someone please help me figure out what type of boa i own..I didnt know they had so many different types of redtail boas. I do know that when the light shines on him it does have a rainbow look.but other than that from what i have seen he looks like the pictures of the regular red tail boas..thanks

Almost all boas can have a "rainbow" shine to them. Where ever you got the snake should be able to tell you what it is. You are going to have to post a picture if you want helpful suggestions.

Maybe it would be helpful if you cannot post a picture to give us a description.

How long is the snake?
How big around?
What color?
What kind of pattern does it have? (red-tails have saddle shaped markings while brazilian rainbow boas have circles and eyespots).

Below is a picture of a brazilian rainbow. Does your snake look like this?

no it does not look like that snake..
he is about 6 ft, Im not sure about the girth, his color is light brown the pattern is darker with some black outlines and the pattern shape is kind of like a diamond shape except on his tail and its circles.

Check on the Boa Constrictor forum- they post plenty of pics of "red tail" boas. The reason for the quotes is pretty much any boa constrictor in a pet shop is usually called a red tail. The most common type I've seen is the Colombian boa. Like a previous poster said, most snakes will have a sheen on them but Rainbow Boas are quite different snakes that Boa Constrictors.
