Lights Out

caraae Oct 27, 2004 07:31 AM

Yesterday I got home and my apartment building was in the middle of a blackout, so my beardies lights were out and the enclosure temp was dropping. It only lasted a short time and he seems fine, but is there anything that anyone does as far as a backup system? And how do you get it to turn on automatically?
Thanks.

UPS - uninterruptable power supply. Typically sold in computer stores. OR buy a generator.

Not sure with generators but UPS are actually always on, as you plug the system into the ups which is plugged into the wall. It continuously keeps itself charged so when the power goes out, it is fully charged and takes over as being the power source in a split second. These however are designed to run computers more than lights, so not sure how long lights would be kept powered, unless you buy a large capacity ones that can last hours.
