Why won't my hoggie eat?

liquidleaf Oct 27, 2004 08:36 AM

Hi all,

Lately my 3.5 year old Hog Island male has been tough to feed. I've had him since this past April and he has always fed well on frozen/thawed. 2 weeks ago he went into a shed cycle (done with it now) and since then I haven't been able to get him to eat. My house got quite a bit cooler but the temps in his cage are still a gradient from upper seventies to mid eighties, he seems active and normal, but when I offer him food he just kind of sniffs it and turns away (he did have a good feeding response). Is this a winter thing? I am VERY reluctant to try and feed him live again since he was eating F/T so well.... I live in New York state so could it be that the days are getting shorter? My BP and 4 year old BCI are still feeding fine, but this will be the first winter I spend with both boas.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Could be he is going into breeding mode and doesn't want food right now. Only a guess, could be many reasons. Just keep an eye on him, and you should be able to tell if he isn't feeling good. Best of luck j
