Chameleon, Good for beginers?

FroggyToads Oct 27, 2004 08:42 AM

Hi,
I have wanted to get a Chameleon for a while now. I am totally new at this so I don't really know what I am looking for. I am looking for an easy to care for one because I am new. What type is easy to care for. If there isn't a Chameleon that's easy to take care of maybe there is another lizard?

Please Help

Thanks

The Chameleon is the LEAST easy to care for lizard. You will have to put a lot of money into them to start, and along the road. If your willing to shell out hundreds or even thousands of dollars for them, then ok, but if not, look toward anoles or something. Those are great beginner lizards found at ANY petstores.

I disagree. Veiled chameleons are actually easy to care for, once you have the proper setup. However, in my opinion, If you want something that's really easy, I'd suggest a leopard gecko for a first time lizard owner. No special lighting, no drippers or misting systems, no veggies. So simple that you can actually keep them in a sweater box. You need a water bowl, small calciun dish(a lid from a milk carton works great), and a hide box. You can be just as plain, or fix up something really fancy.

haha, dont get an anole for the love of god! there high maintenance and cost u $$$! jesus that was the first lizard i started w/ and i was like "ok 20$ and i should be set i ended up walking out of the store spending 100$ which sucked. But now i know , i'd definitly stick w/ a leopard gecko as a first timer there hardy and much less work, read about the care u need to provide for these guys then u'll know what u can buy, DONT BUY ON IMPULSE...

I recommend that you get a bearded dragon for your first lizard. The only difficulty with them is that they require a full spectrum light. The are a great pet though, IMHO they are much better than geckos. They like people and are very docile and friendly. We have fallen in love with ours.
