Soy beans

purduecg Oct 27, 2004 10:04 AM

I have noticed that many of you are feeding the soy beans, how do you feed them? where do you find them? Do you leave them in the pod like green beans, or shuck them like peas?

My adult mali has been losing a little weight, and I like the idea of giving him some more variety, particularly something that might ad some weight on him.

Thank you for the insight!

Well I gave mu mali Buddy the soy beans without the shell. I bought them at Publix in the vegetarian section (tofu etc..) My mali loved them and I gave him about 10. The only thing is they go bad REALLY fast. I had to throw away the beans in less then a week because they became very slimmy.

i fed just the bean too, as i have never found fresh ones still in the pod. the beans are pretty large, like a lima bean or at least the ones here are. i fed them temporarily because helga was 100 grams underweight. why do you think your uro is losing weight?

I am not sure why he is losing weight. I think most recently it may be due to his new living arrangements. He seems to absolutely abhor changes in his location, and he was moved twice in a week right before Mosca got here, so he hid and didn't eat much during that time. Other than that I just don't know. I have no idea what he weighed (he was healthy and fat so no extreme motivation to get him to sit still long enough to weigh him), to know how much weight he has lost, if any. He just doesn't seem quite as plump as he was. Though at that point in time I was worried he was too fat, I am a bit of a worrier. He is going to go in for a check-up here soon anyway, so if he managed to pick up some parasites or something I will find out then. Though I really have no idea where he would have gotten any, lol. I don't think it is dire (noone has commented on how skinny he looks in the pictures yet), so it could just be my overactive "mom gene" kicking in.

i don't know if you ever feed him crickets, but i was told that sometimes live feeders can infect your lizard so even though you have not brought in a new lizard to infect your lizards, they can still get parasites.

Yes, I believe that is true. However I have not fed him crickets, or any other live food for years. He never was really into them.

It is possibly that he picked something up while playing outside this summer though. Who knows! lol.
