Ready......aim....fire......oops, aim again!!

Okay, I know my new leos aren't blind, but man their aim is lousy! Hehe! They're still pretty young, so that's probably the reason why. It's pretty funny though, they get all lined up and BAM!! they strike, only to be 1/4" to 1/2" away from the target (mealworm). I think the mealworms are a little more difficult for them to pick up off the slate tile then they would be off of the sand. But, I can see how they would get a mouth half full of sand every time they tried to strike at prey.
Mine had been fed exclusively mealworms before I got them, but they were a little slow on the uptake eating the mealworms I got them so I introduced some crickets to liven things up a bit. That was just what the doctor ordered. They went right after those buggers. I think I got their appetite going. I'll post some pictures soon. One is a Hypo tang. and the other is a Rainwater PA. They're getting a little more used to their home, so I won't feel as bad about snapping pictures at them. plus they're starting to give me a few more photo ops.

Might just be that they are young, my gecko is pretty good, but somtimes he only nabs the cricket by the leg. you might want to try crickets, they are more high matenence but way better for you pet, of all the worms mealworms are the least nutrisious, my gecko won't eat them at all, he just starves instead, so i'm guessing they don't taste that good either.

May sure you are dusting your worms if you continue to use them. This is the best dust i've found (see picture) It is a fully meal dust. My gecko was underweight and it fattened him right up again.

Thanks. Actually, I was noticing last night that their aim is getting better. I am feeding some crickets too. I was going to just use them sparingly as something to get them eating when I first brought them home, but they seem to enjoy them so much, I think I'll continue to use them. I do dust them. I use calcium dust (Jurassi-Cal) and evry 3rd feeding or so I use Jurassi-Vite (it includes D3, so I don't use it as often). I thought from the reading that I did that the mealworms were pretty nutritious. I'll go back and make a comparison. I'm not sure if my leos like the crickets because they taste better or if it's because they are much more active and trigger their hunting instinct more. I have lost a few in the tank. I need to hunt them down so they don't bother my leos.

I dunno how well gecko's taste, but i figure the crickets taste different depending on what you feed them. I know that if I give them bits of carrot the insides are orange. (I have accidently smashed a few in my years.) The crickets like different food too. It's weird. They always seem to like freeze-dried peas and corn, those always go first.
