Marks developed on newly acquired male gtp

cousinmike Oct 27, 2004 11:45 AM

Hey chondro fans, can anyone help? Two weeks after acquiring a killer pair of c.b. adult gtps, my male started developing these peculiar looking marks on his neck region, now they are showing up on selected localities throughout his length. They are like bluish -black ink splotches, like he was carrying a pen in his pocket and it stained him in a few places. He is an awesome snake, doing well in every other aspect, but I'm concerned that these "marks" will not shed out, and that they are here to stay. Has anyone ever seen this? The female also has afew small areas like this around her neck region too, although she is in a shed, and hopefully they will disappear. Any help regarding this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Mark,

what you are seeing is scarring. Chondros have very thin skin compared to most other snakes. The slightest scratch or bump can leave a lasting scar, that usually will turn bright blue or black. These scars have also turned up on chondros that are kept too humid. If they are just now showing up, you might want to pay close attention to your humidity level. Scars in this case are usually caused by fungus. I'm not aware of any of these blemishes disappearing over time. Good luck and keep us posted.
