Hey,
In the wild Leopard Geckos may be known to dig, as they spend the day inside cavities in the moist ground, maybe his instincts are kicking in? Females will do this very often, especially right around the time that they're going to lay their eggs. If your gecko had a hide filled with vermiculite, you could expect alot of it to be kicked out the next day, as it's part of natural instinct. Take care.

Hee hee mine does it too. I have and AFS (African Fat-tailed Gecko) He likes to dig too. They do it for difference reasons. Mine likes to dig out the sand from his cave and get it close to the glass, I think this is because I have a heating rock next to the spot he digs and there is a heating pad near there also, so he probably like the warmth. He also digs in his "Sweat Box" i'm not sure how many of you use them but they are extremely helpful with sheading and getting the little bit of skin off the toes and the belly. I think he digs in the sweat box for the same reason, because there is a heating pad under it. Let's just think of this as remodeling, we arn't the only ones who get to arrange there homes.

There is another thing I have seen people post about on other boards and we call it "The Gecko Dance" That's wear your gecko goes up against the side of the tank and trys to climb it. Some people freak out when they see this because the geckos are nocternal they don't know it's been happening while they sleep. It is mainly the result of most reptiles inabilty to "see" glass, so they figure "well i could just walk right over there" and as we know, they can't.

are you sure its a boy? This is very common in females, nesting behavior basically. It could als obe to get closer to a UTH, or, if its on the other side of the tank, it may be he's a little too warm. The miosture content of the lower levels of sand are usually moister in the wild, so he may be asking you for misting. Totally normal behavior in any case, but just to be sure, double check your temps and humidity

Yes I'm sure it's a boy, he has the twin bumps and the anal pores between the legs above the tail. If you look at some of my other posts I have pictures of his underside to help people compair so they know what they have.

He tends to dig in the sweat box to get to the heat in my opinion. As for the sand digging I think he just like to be closer to the glass because I tend to keep the sand level to at least an inch. When he gets to hot he usually moves on top of his hide or his sweat box which is a glad ware box with misted moss and a hole cut in the side, (i use a fake rock arch that kinda has steps up the sides.)
