Final Chance to challenge to NY law!!!

Snake114 Oct 27, 2004 03:29 PM

The bills that would ban ownership of certain large pythons and monitors in NY state has finally reached the Governor's desk (it passed the senate and assembly a couple of months ago). He has 7 days to sign or veto it. If you are a NY resident, PLEASE contact the Governor's office as soon as possible to voice your opposition to the bill!!

His office can be contacted at: (518) 474-8390 or by going to www.state.ny.us/governor/, and clicking on “contact the governor”.

Please act soon!!

I assume opinions from outside NY won't be helfpul. Right? Good luck!

I think it's important that the governor's office see that this is an important issue - no matter where you live. Call in - it can't hurt.

I put in my two cents even though I'm from PA. I figure it can't hurt to let the governor know I alone spent $3,000 on a pair of snakes from a breeder in New York. That's revenue that probably went back into New York's economy. Hopefully he'll realize that this isn't the kind of law that should be passed before it's too late. So anyone else from any other state please e-mail him as well and let him know we are a community and we stand together against this bill.

Does anyone know if there was legislation in session on the day the bill was sent to the governor (Sept. 22)? One possible reason for the delay is that it wasn't in session. If this is the case, Pataki has 30 days to act upon it, giving more time to send opposition. He may pocket veto is as well. Thoughts?

From where exactly did you hear or see this? I'd be interested to know, so I could verify it.

Was it a call to the Governor's office or online?

I just got off the phone with the Governor's office, and unfortunately the bill has NOT been vetoed, but rather he did sign it last week. According to his executive office, the information has not yet been passed to the press office to update the bill web sites and press releases, but will be shortly. It has, though, been signed into law......
