Are superworms better than crickets?

adshawksfan Oct 27, 2004 03:59 PM

I was talking to someone and they said superworms were better than crickets for adult beardies. Is this true and if so how many does an adult beardie need a day. My beardie does not seem to really want crickets anymore but he goes after the supers when I put them in his cage.

Everything I have read says that supers are to be fed as a treat not a staple as they are too high in fat. Crickets, roaches & silk worms are good staple insects for beardies. Hope that helps.

They are 17% fat, way to high to be the main insect in the diet. they are also really really high in phosphorus which can steal calcium from the body if the diet is not balanced and supplemented well.

According to this analysis:

http://www.silkworm-supplies.co.uk/nutri00.html.html

It says Crickets are 22% fat. That would make them higher than
Supers.

Then this one is totally different:

Guess it all depends on what lab you use.
