Does anyone know where to find...

ZPD Oct 27, 2004 05:22 PM

Egyptian uromastyx CB babies? If not maybe someone who is expecting them relatively soon? Any info is greatly appreciated! I will continue searching myself. Thanks guys.

I was in my local petshop yesterday and came upon an adult male, huge! Soooooooo cool, I have to have one. This adult was too expensive and had a injured tail, so I am hoping to find a baby.

Last I knew, Deer Fern Farms was not producing Egyptians. And the only ones they were possibly working with were the smaller Microlepis. I could certainly be wrong, though!

What are generally referred to as Egyptian Uros actually come in two varieties, the Microlepsis and the Aegyptius. The microlepsis is smaller than the Aegyptius, and I imagine they come from different regions, though I am unsure about that.

Deer Fern Farms seems to work only with the Microlepsis variety, and Urotopia seems to work only with the Aegyptius.

I am sure there are other differences, I just do not know what they are off the top of my head.

I hope that helps a little!

Thanks.

So the smaller of the two Microlepsis would be like smaller all around or smaller length wise?

I think I'd like the Aegyptius more becuase I've seen some big Egyptian Uro's that are like 3 feet in length.

This is the one I'm talking about

I know microlepsis are, on average, shorter, I would assume that they would also be all around smaller.

He's probably sold out, but you could check out Lindsay Pike at www.urotopia.com. I don't know who else breeds them.

I got an Egyptian Baby Uro from Lindsay Pike of Urotopia a few weeks ago and the transaction, as well as the lizard was phenomenal. I would recommend him without hesitation. Mosca (the baby) arrived, acclimated quickly, and started eat immediately, and like a pig.

When I was trying to find an Egyptian Uro Lindsay was the only place I could find the larger Aegyptius species. Doug had only the microlepsis.

I have no idea if Lindsay has any babies, or other Egyptians left, but I would contact him to find out!
