What do you get when...

...cross a 100% Het Caramel Albino Ball with a 100% Het Albino. Or better yet an albino with a caramel Albino??? I don't need percentages, I would just like to know if the two genes are compatible with one another to reproduce both genomes?
Thanks for anyone who knows...

I don't think anyone has done it yet.

The general assumption seems to be that they are different genes and you would at best get double hets and the double homozygous wouldn't be all that spectacular as albino would probably cover caramel.

I crossed a 66% chance het caramel to a 50% chance het albino this year and got 6 normals but one or both possible hets might have missed.

Until someone crosses the two homozygous we will not know for sure. I have a theory that they might be alleles produce a caramel looking double het and they might even be less likely to be kinked than homozygous caramels.

I'd like to know myself..... unfortunatly it's the rare breeder that would forego a potential 10 grand or more in profits to prove a point..... More is the pity..... I think it would be an interesting project.....

I think as albinos get a little cheaper someone will do it eventually. I'm thinking someone could cross a male caramel to a female albino and if the theory is wrong they would just be out the difference between whatever the double hets would be worth and the price of albinos.

Even if the eventual combo isn't desirable I think the normal looking double hets (if the two mutations aren’t alleles) would be worth a little more than just het caramels because two genes in those het pairs would reduce your chances of producing normal possible hets. Breeding double hets together gets you down to 9/16 rather than 3/4 possible hets vs. breeding single hets. Of course the down side might be the 1/16 double homozygous which might look albino rather than caramel.

I guess it could still be a $3-4K down side on the male half of the double het clutch being worth less than albino males. Would a het caramel girl be worth about the same as a homozygous albino girl?

On the other hand, if it did work out that the double hets look like caramels it would completely shake things up for the caramel mutation. I suppose there would be a different price for the double het ones vs. the homozygous caramel ones. However it would allow a lot more of that appearance to be produced in a hurry (with albino females) and if it helps with the kinking it would again promote proliferation of the caramel phenotype which is very underrepresented for as long as it's been around (probably due to the kinking).
