I'm also getting a pietschmanni in tomorrow. I had wanted to get another pair so I would have another bloodline to breed to my hatchlings but I guess I can breed this guy to any females I hatch out. As where I got them and if they have anymore they don't. I called Xtreme Reptiles and Reptile Depot 2 days after they got their shipments and they were all sold out except so a single male which Xtreme had. I hope some other people start to breed this species in the USA besides me so we can exchange hatchings and get an F2 generation started.

We are working with this species as well as several other people on this forum alone. I wouldnt be terribly worried about finding unrelated blood for F1's.

Did you get that female(?) from the group that was just recently imported. Where did you buy her from? Great looking animal but it looks like it's tail has a bite taken out of it. When or if you do get some babies would you consider trades for other cb offspring. I realize that many people keep this species but not many have had any success. Even Neil Meister has had very minimal success. Thats why I was kind of worried about finding any cb pietschmanni's.

That is a male, actually, and the tail is folded over in a few places. When we have CB offspring, we trade them to other breeders mostly, rather than selling them.

i love hearing of people having success with these guys! it only gets my hopes up more and more day after day. mine have been really healthy ever since i got their mites taken care of when i first got them. my question goes out to anyone who knows about any zoo/museum breeding programs with uroplatus. with successful breeding, theoretically it will bring you to a point (after a few seasons) that you've got more than your institution can or is willing to deal with. is there mostly trade of "surplus" animals in such institutions between one another? or do the extra animals get put into trade? my first thought is that such places would probably want to invest their efforts into other educational projects, but say if some institution has unbelievable success with pietschmanni....so much so that they have more than they can take care of. do they trade/donate the extras to other places with uroplatus projects? i certainly hope so. i just feel like there is no place better equipped and suited for such projects, unless you take a private breeder like neil, for instance. granted CB uro's are hard to come by for the most part, i seriously doubt they would otherwise sell to individuals.
