het vs. normal

bmelv24 Oct 27, 2004 09:20 PM

I read somewhere that it is better to breed 100% hets to normals to have a better chance at getting a morph. Is this right? It seems to me you would be better off with 2 hets.

Breeding a het to normal will give you 50% hets. then you have to hold back the babies and breed them to the original het. With het to het you will have a 25% chance of getting the morph and the rest will be 66% het. I think thats right.

yes, its not quite like with humans. But you would want to add unrelated blood into your lines.

You can't get a morph from breeding a Het to normal, unless your dealing with co-dom. You can only get a morph, breeding het to het.

What are the co-dom traits, and what is morphs, I am just confused on how you classify them, also are there any visible hets, besides the fireball? I have heard that axatnics have a more defined white around the lateral blotches

..all that information (and much more) is available right here.
...start reading. lol

When you are good and confused go here. http://www.2amcreations.com/ballpythons_morph_criteria.html

...and then read some more on the genetics here.
http://www.newenglandreptile.com/care.html

..and if you have not already done, then read this too.
http://www.newenglandreptile.com/CareBall.html

Those three links should cover most any questions you may have.

Good luck

thanks alot, it doesnt really matter to me which is co dom or a "morph" I think that the normal pattern is the prettiest, but a pied is right there, thanks for the responses
