Azureus Boldness compared to Leucs?

kyle1745 May 15, 2003 09:53 AM

I am wondering about Azureus boldness compared to Leucs. As you may have noticed I have moved my 2 Azureus froglets to there new big home (29gal). They are eating and healthy, but they do not come out much. 1 does a little more than the other.

My Leucs seem to be out almost all day, and only seem to hide when I mess around under the tank.

Any ideas? Should I plant some more plants in my Azureus tank to make them feel more safe? I have read that they did not need a heavy planted tank.

Thanks,
Kyle

I've had my azureus for about 3 weeks now, and it seems to me that leucs are just a bolder frog in general. When my leucomelas see me in the morning, they all gather in an area of river rocks to wait for me to feed them. The azureus, on the other hand, will eat sporadically throughout the day. Whereas the leucomelas spend most of the day hopping around in the open, the azureus usually sit tucked in a bromeliad (which is a shame, because the azureus are much prettier, but don't tell my leucs I said that).

when i got my azureus back in Jan. they seemed to be pretty shy also; when they got completely settled in and used to the routine that i made dealing with spraying/ feeding etc. they became more bold and began to stay out more. it took about a month or so for them to get used to me being around. give or take a few days.
be patient they'll come around.
hope this helps

I hope so, like I said that one is starting to be a bit more bold. I have tried to help them get used to it by putting a some fruit on a smal lid in the back behind a plant so they can eat hidden. This may not help get them out, but it keeps them fat. I can't wait to see them all grown up in this tank.

DO YOU GUYS KNOW IF TINCS (NEW RIVER) ARE BOLD. CAN YOU TELL ME WHICH OF THESE THREE ARE THE BOLDEST(AZUREUS, LEUCS, OR TINCS). I AM IN THE PROCESS OF PURCHASING SOME FROGS AND WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT IF YOU COULD TELL ME WHICH ONE OF THE SPECIES ARE THE BOLDEST.

I can't offer comparisons with azureus or leucs, but I can tell you that my New Rivers are quite bold. In fact, they come running when I open the tank because they know I'm bringing food. However, they do require some time to get used to their surroundings, and can get shy (for a while) whenever they are moved.

I found something that FINALLY worked with my extremely shy blue auratus after trying everything I could think of to entice them out and about. I stopped removing the condensation on the glass for a few weeks. Of course, you couldn't see them clearly to appreciate their colors very well, but they did get in the habit of coming out and exloring, even climbing the glass. Now that I'm clearing it again, they're much bolder. Of course, they are reaching full maturity now too, so this may just be a coincidence. I don't have artificial lights over this tank, but it is near a glass door and gets some slanted rays of the evening sun, so the plants haven't suffered.
