how high is too high?

geckogrl6 Oct 27, 2004 10:14 PM

I have a 45 gal tank which has sides of 24 inches up, and I want to put some plexishelves in to make some more room, cause I might put 5 gex in there. Anyway, is 18 inches too high if they fall (or jump) off? also, how big an area underneath should I have a soft landing surface (no rocks). and what is the max slope for a ramp they can climb? what kind of ramp to useand how wide? I like natural looking terraria.

anything more then 8 inches in MY opinion is too tall for a gecko to fall/jump from. I'd let the whole bottom of the terrarium be soft so if they fall anywhere then they won't get hurt.

5 gex is cool. Do you have them yet or no?

You could get cyramic tile from Lowes (about 88cents each) you can put sand in between the tiles and leave space for the sand about half an inch apart in between the tiles (that way if your gex put their hands in the sand they won't get it stuck between two tiles). That'd look cool.

Hey, that's a neat idea with the tiles. My gex likes to climb to cool off.

Thanks. I'm thinking maybe 12 is good, but you're probably right, it's a stretch. I have 9 gex right now (you can see at the bootom of post), and I'd like to put 4 girls and a boy in my 45gal. I know some people like to use tile, but where are you suggesting I put them? on the bottom? or a tile ramp? I will be using a natural substrate mix b/c there will (hopefully) be some live plants in there too, and I like the plexi shelves b/c they don't mess up your view. I have another 30gal with one shelf, will try to post a pic of that for you guys.
