Hi guys,
I have two juvenile White's Tree Frogs. I was wondering if it would be safe to add a salamander to the set up? I not sure what kind yet, but maybe a Tiger, Marbled or Fire Salamander. I appreciate your input. Have a good one!

Well Joe it does sound like a good 'community' set up white's tree frogs and salamanders. But here's the part that say not a good idea. salamanders and newts are toxic and highly carnivorous. Tigers will eat anything they can overpower and if your treefrogs are small enough and happen to venture onto the ground the tiger is going to try it's hardest to devour the frog. Same for the others as well. As far as toxicity all salamanders and newts have poison glands all over their bodies. Now yes they may never excrete this toxin but if they are going to share the same water bowl as the frogs they may leave their toxic residue in the water and if the frog enters this water it will absorb this toxin into their bodies through their skin. Frogs in general are very sensitive to chemicals in the water. I hope this helps you in making your decision. I myself have always wanted a nice community tank with different amphibian species but I know it is not in the best interests of the animals. Steven
