i'm thinking of buying a ball next week at a show i'm going to with a friend. i've never owned a snake before and, though i've read a bit, i thought i'd ask about for some getting started advice. thanks.

balls are excellent first snakes (in my opinion) they dont get really big, and are mostly shy so you are not likely to get bitten. do a little research as far as care sheets, and learn a little about what it takes to handle and care for balls.
look at it this way, you already have an idea on where to come for help/questions!
please dont get a snake if you cant handle the feeding process. i am a strong believer in feeding frozen/thawed mice or rats. might take a little longer, or more effort if your new snake is used to eating live, but no parasites, and no injuries can happen to the snake (i have a rescued snake that someone fed live mice to).
good luck,
and i read somewhere (it proved out in my case) that snakes are addictive. you will end up looking around your house trying to find room for one more!
