Do females flutter their paws?

ajcturtle Jun 29, 2003 05:15 PM

Do you know if female turtles flutter their paws also? Trying to figure out which sex my turtles are--they are only one year old, so don't know if physical characteristics show up yet. They have short front claws but they do flutter at each other as I understand that males do.

I have 2 male Cumberland Sliders and 1 female. The males flutter at each other. I've never seen the female flutter. I can't totally answer your question but I thought that this might help.

I`ve heard people claim that females can flutter as well. My turtle is about 8 months old and definitely a male. He recently started this behavior, but only will do it to my finger if I press it against the wall of his tank. You should be able to tell the sex when the turtle is around 4 inches-- big, broad tail with the anal opening much nearer to the tip than the body and long front claws.
