Young Leos wont eat

bizback67 Oct 28, 2004 01:39 PM

I recently bought a baby albino from petco and a baby albino from a local pet store. I had the one from petco for a couple weeks before I bought the other one. When I first introduced it they both ate for a couple days but I dont think they have really eaten for a couple days? Maybe a couple worms? They are about the same size and Im pretty sure the conditions are good because they have eaten. I also have a large male in a separate cage and he eats well but hes not on any schedule, sometimes he eats every other day and sometimes he waits a frew days. What should I do?

Alot of gecko's are picky eaters, you might want to try something else. My gecko refuses to eat mealworms. He will only eat the crickets. Also, if you are useing one kind of bug (especually mealworm because they arn't very nurtious) you should be dusting them. I use a special meal replacement dust that covers all diet needs because my gecko will only eat crickets.

The dust I use looks like this (this works for any of the fat-tailed gecko breeds)

Yeah I have the exact same dust. Ive been feeding them A lot of waxworms but I think Ill try some other food. The babies are albino and they have trouble with crickets, but Ill give it a try. Also do you think they might both be males? Ive gotten a few leos from petco and they are always females but I didnt think the chances were very high that'd Id end up with two baby males? They arent fighting or anything, they sleep together in the same hide- and theres more then one hiding spot.

Waxworms aren't the best diet for leos. They are good as a treat but not all the time food. Try silkworms, my leo loves them so. He eats every one I put in there except for one no matter if I put 3 or 15.

I tired waxworms today and my picky gex ate them. Thankfully. My new baby will eat the mealworms, I'm going to try the mealworms on the other again but he wouldn't eat them before. I don't know if they are common where you live but I can't find the silkworms. All I have been able to find around here are Mealworms, Waxworms, and Earthworms.

I had to order silkworms off the internet. There is a place that you can get 100 tiny silkworms and food for $11 shipped to your door. That is what I did to see if he liked them. They are small to start but they sure grow fast if you feed them. The site is silkwormfarm.com.

You might want to try these people. I saw them on the 'net and then at a local Reptile Expo. They seemed very knowledgable and helpful, and their worms looked great. I'm going to get some myself - along with the "chow" mix to keep the colony going.

I just bought a new baby from petco. It might be a girl, but i'm not sure who to sex the young ones. If they are young and males they probably would get along, but if they are full grown then they would most likely be fighting.
