Res problems, i'm concerned

dispute21stars Oct 28, 2004 01:42 PM

ok, i put 5 rosey fish in the tank on tuesday and woke up wednesday w/ 3 left so i figured he ate them, i'm trying to feed him more greens though and i bought a huge bowl of bloodworm tabs, and still haven't seen him eat... so i'm gonna try ghost shrimp this weekend. also can they sleep underwater? i was so worried about him drownning when he was sleeping, i stacked a ton of river rocks on one side of his tank so it gets him like 2" from the surface so he can get air easier w/o swimming to the surface but now he stays over there all the time! and just sits there never swimming, i kinda wanna take out the rock b/c algae is gonna build up in that still water where the rock is stacked but i'm freakin' worried HELP ME!

He won't drown while sleeping, but he does need a place where he can get totally out if the water and dry off.

You should try useing no rocks, it makes cleaning tons better. The only difference really is that rocks make it look pretty. You don't need any rocks in your tank if you have a floating dock, I don't use rocks myself and it cuts down on the build-up on the bottem of the tank.

As for the eating, give them a few days of quiet. When I first got my babies they didn't eat at all the first day, and they got a normal diet after 5-7 days. Just try not to handle them to much or open the doors to the room quickly. I haven't tried it myself but from have good things about the reptile first-aid drops. The are supposed to help encorage the eating and keep them nurished. You might beable to find them at your local petshop. I live in Alaska and they carry the kits here. Of course if you do use one you will probably have to handle him/her.

Do you have a heat light over the basking area? How temperature is the basking area, and what temperature is the water? Sometimes one or the other is too hot or too cold, and the turtle won't bask for that reason.

Do you have a UVB light? How about a place to hide underwater?
