Help, green spot snake dead snake.

inkognito Oct 28, 2004 04:37 PM

Hi,

I came to my room to find a ball python dead, it was a none feeder for 6 weeks.
I got so depressed that I just went and put it in the freezer.

2 days later I checked it out, and found a large spot, dark green at the belly area.

About 5 years ago I saw just the same in some burmese pythons that refused to eat that died.

do anyone here know if this could have any reasons related to the death?

thanks
Inkog

Im not sure what it is but ive seen something like what you described in an albino nelsons milksnake. It did eat however but it always regurgitated. I thought maybe it had swallowed some substrate and it caused an infection, but thats just a guess.

I don't know, but I had a non-feeding cornsnake who had the same thing before he passed away. Makes me wish now that I'd done a necropsy. Maybe I would have an answer for you. I hope someone has an answer for you! Good luck with your remaining snake, and I am sorry for your loss.

I have also seen this only it was in a shovel nose snake, and in several leopard geckos. I noticed that the greenish (sometimes blue) spot consistantly appears on the ventral side of the animal, directly below the liver and stomach usually an hour or so after death. I did a necropsy on two of the leopar geckos that died, and noticed an abnormaly colored spot on the liver of the first leopard gecko disected. However, what looked like infected tissue, did not reveal any sort of bacteria or fungal spores under the microscope. I too am curious as to what might cause this?
