war on mites

johnriz Oct 28, 2004 05:05 PM

I have recently noticed my breeding pair of boas has mites. i have no idea how i got them. I have tried no pest strips in the cage with them. no luck. now i am using provent a mite. i treated the males cage since it is empty. Is it ok to move both of them into his cage so i can treat her cage? My female is most likely already pregnant so i didnt want to move her but is it ok if i do? Will this harm the chances of their breeding? they have been together for 2 months and i have noticed copulation many times and i think ovulation. My cages are plywood so treating them for mites is difficult
thanks for any responses.

Yes it is safe to move both of them. When it comes to mites.....do what you gotta do. I really doubt you will interupt anything or spoil your chances. Do you want new babies with mites???...........Thought so.

Hey, as I was cleaning one of my younger boas cage today I noticed some greyish colored looking little bugs in it's fecal matter. I have never noticed anything on the outside of this snake, and I was wondering if these are mites or what they may be? Thanks any help is appreciated!

If it was in the fecal matter it is going to be some type of parasite. Take a sample to a herp vet and get a stool sample check. They should be able to help you out if you are not familiar with the treatments for internal parasites. Bugs in stool is not good.
