Yellow ratsnake care question?

Malays Oct 28, 2004 07:30 PM

Hello. Interested in a pair of yellow ratsnakes I saw in petstore. They were sold to them by a customer that was moving. Great looking young snakes both about 18 inches.
Wanted to know if fed seperately could they be housed together all their lives. The cage for now if I buy them is a 55 gallon but I will begin to make a large cage this weekend with climbing shelves, etc.
Also would like to know ideal temps for them. I keep only small native snakes not familiar with yellow rats other than high strung ,nervous.
Thanks.

These snakes are found in the same range as Corn Snakes, so just use a Corn Snake Care Sheet as your guide. There are plenty on them out there on the web.

There are lots of reasons for not keeping them together, but if you feed them apart, that will go a long way to keeping them safe. Snakes will fight over food. I have Yellow Rats myself, and I love their coloring. Mother Nature cooked up something great with those snakes.

Best of luck with them.

Yep! Corn Snaks are ratsnakes. They (Yellow Rats and Corn Snakes) are both members of the same Genus, but they are not of the same species.
