what's the "best" substrate for pits

scapelli Oct 28, 2004 09:48 PM

I'm used to using plain white paper towels. Always seemed to work well, easy and cheap to replace, little chance of ingestion. BUT, I am almost done with my new enclosure. 6 feet wide, 18 inches deep, and 2 feet tall. Obviously this thing is an attention grabber, so I'm thinking maybe I should try for a substrate that is more visually appealing. I know there are a million different things but whats the best for a bull?

Aspen is hard to beat - little danger if ingested, it is fairly absorbent(easy to pick out excrement) and helps keep smell down as well.

i second the aspen bedding vote. use it for all my snakes, including bulls.
