What do you mean by "not active". Is he completely inactive, not moving, eating etc? If so and he has been like this longer than a day or two, and all your temps are right, etc. I would get him to a vet. The only time my Uro has ever gone "dormant" for longer than a day or 2 was because his tank temps had dropped without me realizing it.

If he is "less active" it is possible that he is slowing down for the winter.

Uros do brumate, if conditions are conducive to it. I do not brumate my Uro since he is not breeding, and he does slow down a little in the winter, but still eats, and runs around pretty regularly. I think it is unlikely that your Uro has brumated himself, unless his cage temps have dropped significantly due to loss of a heat light, room temperature being a lot colder, or something similar.

Without more info, that would be my 2 cents...

To answer the original question about burmation...yes they do go into a burmation, or as some would describe as a "slow-down" period. Generally you can remove this aspect of a Uro's life by keeping temps constant and high. However, it is a natural thing for Uros to go through. Most of the time it is required to stimulate breeding behavior. However, to remove Uros from the stage make sure that all temps are kept high and constant. Also remove Uros cage from view of windows. The change in day light in your state can cause them to do it also. If you don't want them in the stage it is fine just make sure you keep an eye on them. If your temps are constatn and high then watch him and see if he needs to go to the vet. This time of year is a time when we see Uros get impacted because new owners to these animals aren't readty for this stage of life. Any more questions email me. shbrehob@hotmail.com

Some people leave a small bowl of birdseed in their Uros cage at all times for snacking. My Uro will eat birdseed exclusively if he has the option so I only rarely make it available. My juvenile gets fed the finch food with the colored, man-made bits in it once a week, and will eventually move up to iguana food once a week, just as one more way to supplement vitamins and minerals.

So the short answer is that how often you feed seed depends on your Uro.

My mali won't even look at it. I put bird seed in his enclosure many times and he won't eat them.
