Your pride is well placed!! What a beuatiful, marvelous creature!! Get those babies established and out in the hobby.
LOL!!! Thanks.
Well, I am certainly not the first one to breed them, but it's a step closer to establishing them.

You got my sweet tooth Sacha....

...Chinese Bamboo Rat Snakes (Oreophis porphyracea vaillanti).
I have always thought the other subspecies were much more beautiful than coxi. Really a stunning snake.

Thanks!
Same here. Don't get me wrong, coxi is beautiful, but I think the pattern on these is more interesting as they have stripes and bands.
Sacha
The coxi are beautiful, but I'm getting rid of mine. They just don't make a very good pet snake, although they are pretty hardy too. I will be moving to the Southwest in a few years and it's too dry there.
I like the vaillanti better also, not that I have any yet, but not just because they are prettier. I think they are a more interesting snake because of the taxonomy and because of their natural history. My theory is that coxi and vaillanti aren't that closely related. They are definitely not the same subspecies, but they might even get separate species status some day. The vaillanti remind me of the helena from India.
Good luck raising them, Sacha.
Cheers....TC
record of the pattern change from hatchling to adult for the vaillanti? I've never seen the in-between stages myself. Truly beautiful little bugger. Congratulations
Regards
John
Thanks John!
Well, the closest person I can think of would be Rex (probably also Klaus). Rex first hatched one two years ago, and he may have even sent me an update of that hatchling (couldn't find it). But vaillanti doesn't really go through a dramatic pattern change like coxi since most of them keep their bands (well the nice ones). The black does lighten up a bit and usually leaves a black border around the bands (see mama attached).
Sacha

I think that change (the lightening of the bands and the appearance of the stripes) if documented with frequent photos would make a fascinating time lapse study. of course it would take some kind of digital photoshop wizard to take photos of the snakes in all different positions and make that become a time lapse montage or progression

Here is CB'02 female from Tam Dao, Vinh Phu province, Vietnam, and pic is from this summer.

This pic is from last autumn, CB'02 male from same locality as female in my earlier message, Tam Dao, Vinh Phu province, Vietnam.

Timo,
I know this reply pretty late, but that animals looks like a O. porphyracea coxi.
Sacha
Hi Sacha,
I look forward to the day these are established. I'll never forget the first time I saw a picture of the nominate form in "Snakes of Thailand and their Husbandry". I've been intrigued by these snakes ever since.
I'll add that I also prefer O. p. vaillanti and the nominate form over O. p. coxi. Not that I've ever seen the nominates in person, however.

Current snakes:
1.1 Gonyosoma oxycephala - (Silver/Yellow)
3.4 Gonyosoma oxycephala - (Green)
2.1 Gonyosoma janseni - (Black)
Well, my absolute favorite subspecies are pulchra (see Klaus-Dieter Schulz's website) and the nominate (especially the juvenile pattern with the white outlines).
Sacha
compliments,
I would have some info:
I'm in contact with an european breeder that succesfully reproduced vaillanti and he said me that over 25°C (77F) they refuse food. Which is your experience?
Thank you
regards
nazzza
Thanks Nazza!
I keep mine at room temperature without any additional heat which is about 24-25C (just a fluorescent light on a timer for photo period).
