feeding a wild caut Pit

scapelli Oct 28, 2004 10:51 PM

If I were to get a hold of, say a 4 ft wild caught bull... am I going to have trouble feeding it? Is it likely to take mice or rats, or should i expect it to be picky?

Follow standard Pit husbandry, give it a hiding box, let it settle in without being bothered for 5 days, and then put a fresh-killed mouse in the door of the hiding box. Go away for two hours, and the odds are high that the mouse will be gone. I've seen several dozen wild caught bullsnakes, and every one was a good to excellent feeder. Don't try to feed them from your hand, though. Getting a fair sized Pit off your finger is quite painful.
