Little bugger stopped eating

ohiorabbit Oct 29, 2004 08:00 AM

I have 2 pairs of leos. One of the pairs lives at my college dorm with me. I have had them for nearly a year. They have all been doing fine, except for one, a male jungle phase.

He has went more downhill recently, and is really starting to worry me. He stopped eating and is becoming noticably "smaller". He isn't to the point of being skinny yet, but he is definately not as plump as he should be.

They have all been living on mealworms, waxworms, etc. "Leo" now refuses to touch ANYTHING! He will look at them for a few seconds and then walk away again. He insists on laying around all day on his favorite chunk of bark.

He also seems to not like opening one of his eyes. I have seen him open it at times, but it never stays open. I have also seen him rub it along the glass on the side of the tank. I gently held a cotton ball with warm water on it for a while to see if that would help loosen it up if it had gunk in it or something, but it didn't.

I really feel horrible with him not eating and I want to help him so bad!! All of my other geckos are so happy and healthy... I don't understand what is wrong with him. Please give me some advice before it gets any worse

If I were you I would plan a vet visit. Better to be safe than sorry. Hopefully it isn't anything bad.

I don't think there is a herp vet near me. I live about 10 minutes from Ohio University in Athens, OH (southern). Any vet recommendations?

My suggestion would be to do a search on here because I know I've seen someone post a web site that tell you different number for herp vets in different areas, or you could just call a local vet and get them to recommend one for you. Hope this helps a little. Keep us posted.

I live in Alaska and I was able to fine a herp vet by looking in the phone book. If it's a drive away then you might have to go for it anyway. Everything around here is a 30 minute drive.

Just make sure to give them a heat pack when traveling to a vet.
