Labyrinth or Classic Jungle

dempserg Oct 29, 2004 01:43 PM

How are both of these genetically unproven patterns defined?

Would you consider this a labyrinth or classic jungle? Neither?
I picked up this girl at NARBC Anaheim.

Anybody got a yellowbelly I can borrow?

Thanks,
Rob Dempsey

Good question. I have a male that I picked up at Daytona last year (was sold to me as a female) that looks exactly like this. I thought many times of selling him to cut back on males, but something keeps telling me to hold on to him....

She does have a nice intricate pattern with lots of "eyes". Not sure how to classify her. It will be interesting to see if those dark island/eyes fade differently than the rest of her pattern.

IMHO, a classic jungle should be high contrast, intricate pattern, a mustache (black on the upper lip), and a well defined light spot on top of the head.

Here is the most classic jungle of three classic jungle like babies I've hatched so far.

VPI had an awesome labyrinth that failed to prove and it had the same separation off pattern elements with the faded look to the eye/island elements that mine developed with age. Makes me wonder if some classic jungles and some labyrinths are caused by the same thing. All mine have been from eggs that I believe where stressed. Two where only survivors of clutches and the one pictured below was on top of the clutch in a Styrofoam incubator without air circulation and he came out quickly leaving his yolk behind so might have been too hot or something.

Not sure if it's worth the time to try to prove it out...too many males, not enough females. Ain't that always the case??
It would be cool if it was Co-Dom, but I highly doubt it.

I just bought her because she looks cool...And I needed more girls.

Thanks,
Rob Dempsey

It's just a normal "busy" patterned Ball, and it will throw some babies that resemble it.

I have 3 females that look the same and no male.

Cool snake. Any baby pics?
Thanks for the info. Any idea how labyrinths are described? The breeder I got it from (although it is captive hatched) described it as "labyrinth type."
I had always wondered if many abberants were produced due to stressed eggs. I believe Philipe de Vosjoli (SP?) has stated that (non-genetic) stripes have been produced due to changes in incubation temperature...not sure if it due to sudden temp spikes, or just temperature fluctuations due to poor insulation. Interesting topic though...it would be interesting to talk to large scale colubrid breeders who have incubated 10,000 eggs to see if they have any comments.
Thanks Randy,

Bottom right.
She looks more extreme when sitting next to others.

The page linked shows him as a baby.

I put him with a female last winter but she produced late the year before and didn't go again.

I was going to loan him out this winter but the female didn't get big enough to go. I think the chance of his appearance being genetic are low but it might be worth a try just in case.

She is about 500 grams now and eating like a horse! She is a very pretty snake, even if she is normal...yours too!

I have a baby female that looks really close to yours. I got mine from Cheryl Bott in Daytona for 40.00. She said she produced it.
