Moving Beardies?

JethrozMom Jun 29, 2003 06:29 PM

Hey guys, i posted a similar message on the chameleon forum just a second ago.. We're moving at the end of august to houston and im in dallas. Its about a 5 hour drive and i was just wondering the best way to move my dragons. I was thinking i'd just put them in a cardboard box with holes punched in it... they're pretty easy going and that's how i got them to my house in the first place, but i just wanted to make sure that's alright. I could get a sterelite box and put holes in it and line it with moist paper towels if you guys think thats better.

I havent moved with lizards, ive moved with my snakes and theyre easy, i just throw them in a duffel bag and go, but im worried about my lizards! I love 'em, i dont wanna hurt 'em!

Thanks for any suggestions y'all have!
Jamie

A regular cardboard box with holes will do. Make sure you keep them out of direct sunlight on the long trip. If you make a stop on the way, and it's a hot day keep someone in the car with the air on. A short time in a car with the engine off and no air can be a quick death 10 minutes on a 85 degree day can have your car at 125 degrees, and higher as more time passes. Saw a segment on tv that did a study like that just the other day. People who leave children in the car for short periods risk death and brain damage. Good luck on your move..

Thanks Matt.

I'm more worried about my chams than i am about my beardies, they're pretty tough. We have a dog that has to go in the car too, so we plan on making a few potty stops and i'll probably walk the dog while the fiancee stays in the car with the herps!

Its going to be fun fitting all this in a Camaro!!!

Oh well, i'll keep y'all posted on what happens.

Thanks again,
Jamie
