Repost: Question about a sleepy dragon

dblough Oct 29, 2004 04:20 PM

I posted this question a few days ago but didn't get any responses so I am posting again in hopes of getting some help.

Over the last 3 weeks or so both my 1 1/2 yr old male and my 1 yr old female have been sleeping under their logs about 90% of the day and not eating much at all. Over the last two days they have not come out at all, I am assuming they are entering themselves into the brumating period. My concern is that both of them have eaten superworms and greens over the last week or so but neither have pooped in like 2 weeks, I'm afraid that the food they have eaten has not passed through them and may possibly rot in them or something. Also neither has drank any water in a while.
So what are my options? Do I just let them be to do their brumation period? If so how long per day should I set their timers for their heat/basking light?
Thank you for your time.

Hey Daniel,

I'd give them each a bath and see if you can get them to poop that way. Other than that, turn off everything and put a dish of water in just in case they wake up and are thirsty. That's about all there is to it.

Thank you very much Sean, so do I completely turn the lights off? I don't need to set the timers to come on at all during the day during the brumation? Thank you again for your time,

Ya, as long as your house doesn't get too cold (below 60) you don't need any heat or light during brumation. I forgot to mention I'd get a weight on them now and periodically check them throughout the process. They should lose very little if any weight while they're sleeping.

I would still have the lights on. Just reduce the amont of daylight to about 10 hours with 14 hours of night. Reduce heat as well so it's only about 75F during the day, no lower than 65F at night
