Does anyone know if a permit is required to own or sell any species of python? One store i went to said they did not sell pythons because they didnt have the correct permit. Do stores just need them to sell, but people dont need one to buy? Thanks for any information on this.

Yes, you do need permits (different ones) to own or sell pythons.

To own a python, you need a hobbyist permit - it's $10/year for any amount of animals. You don't need to have it prior to purchasing an animal, but the pet store you buy from should give you a temporary permit to carry you until you send in for your real one.

To sell pythons (or other permit animals) you need a pet store permit. These are more expensive than the hobbyist permits, and the state will send you a book of temp permits to give to your customers (and for you to file with the state periodically).
