What exactly, do I have here?

LadyV Oct 29, 2004 09:15 PM

I bought him from work becuase I felt sorry for him...it said, "Large Toad..Bufo spp" will get 9" I have him set up in a large plasic house that has a built in watery part and dry part.

"Features unique built-in ramp to evelated basking area and rounded bow-front allows for maximim viewing. The durable metal screen insert allows for great ventilation and is easily removed from the locking canopy for easy access. Accommodates most heating and lighting equipment. Ideal for leopard geckos, frogs, toads, tadpoles, newts, salamanders, tarantulas, small desert lizards and small snakes."

This is what I had to use...I put a sort of mossy stuff on the botton and dampened it with water that sat over night....it's for frogs and such...I put some artifical plants in...do I need a light for him? What about heating? I named in "Buford"

TIA

I know u got it at petsmart, because im psychic.Anyways, a difference in light from night to day is needed so the toad knows if it is morning or evening or night or whatever. Heating is probably not needed, just keep it in the 70's, i'd say. I think this is a cane toad. When it does get 9 inches, those enclosures will be too small. I would say get a 10 or 15 gallon tank for 1 toad. If my psychic power is still working, you work at Petsmart. They (sorry to say!) dont have the cheapest tanks. Walmart has 10 gallon tanks for only 10 dollars. A clamp lamp from home depot or wherever with a 40 watt bulb on for 12 hours a day should do fine. Bedding can be "moss stuff", bed-a-beast, spaghnum moss, or the like. TO keep it cleaner, just give it a water dish. I don't know if you know much about keeping them, thats why i am telling you all this. I hope this helps.

you'll need something much bigger than a 10-15 gallon for a 9" toad. I'd say no less than a 50 gallon.

Yes....I am all over the net so it's no secret I am one of the manager staff at Petsmart...LOL And yes, I sometimes go to Wal Mart to get things cheaper....I'm concerned about heating more than anything, I know I'll have to adjust his enclosure as he grows...no under the tank heating as they dig and I don't him to get burned....also, which is the best substare for the little guy....A Cane Toad hu!? I'll post a picture of him when I'm off work, Tueday and Wednesay....

use bed-a-beast

Paullywog Oct 31, 2004 01:05 PM

Yeah, a toad that size will need a large enclosure. The bigger the better. Bed-a-beast is like the best.

amphibianfreak Nov 01, 2004 04:43 PM
