Found Grey Treefrog in my home

deadfishherp Oct 30, 2004 08:40 AM

yesterday I discovered a very cold grey treefrog in my garage. don't know how long he's been there but it's been way too cold for treefrogs to be moving around much here (right outside of Boston). He's kind of thin so I brought him inside, warmed him up to room temperature then put him in a heated enclosure and offered a few crickets which were quickly eaten. I don't think he intended to hibernate in the garage and he wouldn't have survived as it gets very cold in there and he wasn't very fat (grey tree frogs usually are right?). Any suggestions on whether or not I should put him back out there or if i should hold him inside until spring. I'm hibernating a few snakes starting in december, maybe I should fatten him up and put him in the hibernation room? I have no experience with treefrogs, expecially one's I'd like to release back into the wild. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

grey's are actually adapt to surviving in cold situations. What is the current outside temp? I am glad to hear you want to release him back out side, too many people find a frog and want to keep it. If you decide to keep it over winter to release next spring, then you don't need to hibernate it. just keep up the temps (60-70 or so) and feed him.
