Every one of the snakes that I've put in a aquarium-style type cage like that have done the same exact thing. They continue to do it until they can no longer fit, some will try to persist doing this even after SEVERAL attempts and MANY falls.

your snake is trying to find a small crevice in which it can fit, because that makes it feel secure. also, your snake is wanting to climb. you have nothing for it to climb. i would highly reccomend getting some 1/2" wooden dowels and mini zip ties to connect them, and build a climbing structure. you will be amazed how active your snake becomes!
